Australia v England

Edgbaston… Wednesday June 27th

England win by 28 runs

Attendance: 24,227

Ticket: £56 – Programme £6

A comfortable win for England, on a warm Wednesday evening at Edgbaston, in this solitary IT20 match against Australia. A win to add to a 5-0 ODI series victory…

Australia won the toss, and chose to bowl. England started quickly however, with Jason Roy and Jos Buttler putting on 95 for the first wicket. Buttler became the first wicket to fall (for 61), having taken the record for the fastest T20 50 by an English batsman (22 deliveries). England continued to score quickly, eventually setting the Australians a target of 222…

Australia’s poor recent form continued, and they soon found themselves chasing the game at 72 for 5. This was the cue for Aaron Finch to start hitting big, and he certainly put the pressure on the home side (Moeen Ali in particular) for a few overs. But with his dismissal for 84 (1 deliveries / 7 fours, 6 sixes), Australia’s chances of victory disappeared…
