Birmingham City 3 Rotherham United 1

St. Andrew’s… Saturday October 5th… 3pm

Attendance: 19,795

Ticket: £25 – Programme: £3

After five successive home draws, a first home win of the season courtesy of a Lukas Jutkiewicz hat-trick…

That was the good bit, but then came the bad bit. Newcastle were winning 2-0 at Old Trafford when I got off the train home, unexpected but welcome. By the time I got back to my flat, we’d lost 3-2. Lessons? Their bench is slightly stronger than ours, and we don’t get penalties…

14.09.2018… West Brom (h)…

Birmingham City 1 West Bromwich Albion 1

St. Andrew’s… Friday September 14th… 7.45pm

Attendance: 22,715

Ticket: £25 – Programme: £3

The hunt for a first win continues, although Birmingham created more than enough chances to have taken three points from this one…

Blues went ahead via a close range Jota effort on 26 minutes. They should have gone two up from the penalty spot minutes later, but Jota’s kick was saved by Sam Johnstone low to his left. Inevitably, West Brom equlised, the gosl coming from Matt Phillips before half time…

The second half was end to end, but Birmingham had to settle for a fifth draw from their opening seven games, and still no wins…

01.09.2018… QPR (h)…

Birmingham City 0 Queens Park Rangers 0

St. Andrew’s… Saturday September 1st… 3pm

Attendance: 21,155

Ticket: £25 – Programme: £3

One of the worst games of football that I’ve seen in a very long time, only saved by the weather. The situation wasn’t helped by referee Jeremy Simpson who never missed an opportunity to break up play, blowing up repeatedly for largely imagined fouls..

QPR had the better of the possession, as well as the only real effort of note in the final few minutes. But in truth, it was a game that neither side really deserved to win…

So honours even, and for Birmingham, the hunt for that first win continues…
