Gateshead 2 Eastleigh 0

Gateshead International Stadium… Friday March 30th… 3pm

Attendance: 764

Ticket: £15 – Programme: £2.50

The day that the sun finally came out. It’s a strange old feeling to be warm at Gateshead Stadium…

A good game too. Gateshead on top from start to finish, winning through a goal in each half. Daniel Johnson scoring the first on the stroke of half time, and Jordan Burrow adding the second after the break…

Well I’ll start with the plusses… The sun shone all afternoon and competitive football is back, unfortunately nobody appeared to tell that to Nuneaton Town…

Nuneaton started reasonably well, hitting the crossbar early on through Jorrin John but that was as good as it got. Within a few minutes Eastleigh went ahead when Jai Reason tapped in what looked like a suspiciously offside goal, no excuse for the defending though. Heads appeared to drop and, as a result,  Nuneaton barely got out of their own half for the remainder of the first period…

Second half, more of the same… Eastleigh went 2-0 up through a Craig Stanley goal whilst Ben Stevens hit a third from close range… Game over…

And it certainly doesn’t get any easier from here, Grimsby Town away on Tuesday, Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground next Saturday…

Anyway, I’ll finish on a positive… I got my steps for the day up to 16000 by walking home, which meant that I could use the space created by the calories burnt to eat a whole bag Haribo… Small mercies…
