19.04.2018… Leics v Soton…

Leicester City 0 Southampton 0

King Power… Thursday April 19th… 7.45pm

Attendance: 31,160

Ticket: £36 – Programme: £3.50

A largely forgettable game at the King Power, although the improvement in the weather over recent months was greatly appreciated…

From a Leicester perspective, Claude Puel was quite clearly in end of season mode, playing around with the formation, trying things out. As for Southampton, they’re supposed to be fighting to avoid relegation, based upon this performance, you wouldn’t know it…

Leicester City 1 Newcastle United 2

King Power Stadium… Saturday April 7th… 3pm

Attendance: 32,066

Ticket: £36 – Programme: £3.50

One of those days that reminds you why it is that you fell in love with Newcastle United. An outstanding performance, both on and off the pitch, culminating in a well warranted win…

Jonjo Shelvey gave us the lead in the first half, with a deflected shot from the edge of the box. Ayoze Perez added a second after the break, lobbing an onrushing Kasper Schmiechel, following a misunderstanding between Wes Morgan and Harry Maguire….

Jamie Vardy pulled one back (rather undeservedly) with seven minutes remaining, but our victory never really looked to be in any danger…

Pre-Match: Sat in the home end, wishing I was in the away end…

Leicester may argue that they should have had a penalty at 1-0, when Paul Dummett appeared to pull down Riyadh Mahrez. But by that point they should have been down to ten men, Harry Maguire somehow avoiding a red card when the referee clearly saw him put a hand into Dwight Gayle’s face…

Anyway, we move on to 38 points. Safe? Almost…

Leicester City 1 Chelsea 2 (aet)

King Power… Sunday March 18th… 3pm

Attendance: 31,972

Ticket: £28 – Programme: £3.50

Leicester will have to wait at least one more year for that first FA Cup win, after sliding to defeat in extra time against Chelsea at the King Power…

In truth, it was a game that either side could have won, although Leicester will be frustrated that both of their opponent’s goals came as a direct result of mistakes on their part…

Pre-Match: The Players Warm Up…

Chelsea took the lead just before half time, following a misjudged Kelechi Iheanacho pass. Álvaro Morata beat Ben Chilwell far too easily to a superb Willian throughball, lifting the ball past an advancing Kasper Schmeichel and into an empty net. Leicester fought back though, and deservedly equalised with fifteen minutes remaining. Jamie Vardy scoring with a tap in following a goal mouth scramble. Game on…

At that point the game was very much in the balance, and Vardy could have clinched it in normal time were it not for a superb save from Willy Caballero…

Extra Time: Leicester on the Attack…

But with the game in the first period of extra time, Schmeichel made the mistake that would ultimately cost Leicester the game. When N’Golo Kanté knocked a ball in from the left, he completely misjudged its flight, leaving Pedro with the easiest of headers to take Chelsea through to the semi finals…
