04.04.2017… Leics v Sund…

Leicester City 2 Sunderland 0

King Power… April 4th… 7.45pm

Attendance: 31,757

Ticket: £44Programme: £3.50

A much improved second half performance resulting in a reasonably comfortable home win. The turning point of the night definitely being the introduction of Marc Albrighton…

Six games without a goal for Sunderland, relegation looking inevitable. I was glad to see Sunderland in red and white stripes too. It’s much easier to dislike them in their home kit…

Leicester City, everyone’s second favourite team apparently. Not mine, too much baggage…

It felt refreshing to be approaching a game (particularly away from home) with a cautious amount of optimism, that’s the Rafa Benitez effect I suppose. I still can’t believe he said ‘Yes’, although I don’t expect him to be here beyond the end of the season, even if we do stay up. We’ve been here before…

Pre-Match: Outside The Stadium Formerly Known As The Walkers…

Not a great game, and certainly not a game that either side deserved to win. Leicester did though, through an Okazoki overhead kick following a cut back from an offside Jamie Vardy. We had a pretty good penalty appeal turned down too. A much improved performance from our lot though, in other words, we didn’t fold once we conceded…

I appreciate that the nerves must be getting to Leicester, and sneaking games 1-0 is a good habit to get into, but surely this isn’t the best side in the Premier League…?

First Half: An Offside Jamie Vardy About To Set Up The Only Goal…

A much more positive feeling amongst the away contingent on the night though, just how long it lasts though is very much dependent upon the outcome on Sunday…

Ticket: £33 – Programme: £3

One of the most disgraceful performances I have ever witnessed by a Newcastle United side…

It’s not really worth singling out any individuals for their input (or lack of) as the team were collectively inept. Cliched I know, but an absolute disgrace to the shirts they were wearing, even with the loan shark logos attached…

Pre Match…

This is worse than the early nineties, as at least in the dark days before the arrival of Keegan we had some hope that things may eventually get better. We knew that McKeag could only hang on in there for so long, whereas Ashley’s wealth makes him untouchable…

Next stop, Selhurst Park next Saturday, three trains and a tube with the result pretty much a foregone conclusion. In fact, there was a point on the walk back to the Central Station where I seriously considered not bothering, ticket already bought but throwing good money after bad…

First Half…

On a happier note, I watched ‘I Believe In Miracles’ on Monday night. A fantastic story with a cracking soundtrack, and great to see the story of that great Forest team being told as much from the perspective of the players as Clough and Taylor…

Scraping promotion, Champions of England, European Champions, all in the space of two years. If only football still had the capacity to be a little bit more like that…

Newcastle United; Elliot, Janmaat, Coloccini, Mbemba, Dummett (YC), Sissoko (YC), Anita (YC), Tiote (Thauvin 20), Wijnaldum, Perez (YC) (De Jong 81), Mitrovic (Cisse 62)
