1980 – 1981 Season… 1980-1981 programmes...

Started the decade in the Second Division and drifting… Continued to drift… Finished 11th, Lost 4-0 at Exeter in the FA Cup…

Attended my first game, aged 8,  with my dad…  Luton Town in the FA Cup 4th Round… a 2-1 win… He bought me a programme, big mistake…

1981 – 1982 Season…1981-1982 season...

Another season of stagnation… Finished 9th… 4th Round FA Cup exit, 2-1 at home to Grimsby Town… Average home league attendances were 17,276…

1982 – 1983 Season…1982-1983 season...

Keegan arrived, Terry Mcdermott returned and Chris Waddle woke up… A late surge to 5th in the league…

My one and only game in the old West Stand, Leeds United in the League Cup… First European opposition too, a friendly against Dynamo Kiev…

1983 -1984 Season…1983-1984 season...

The promotion season… Waddle, Beardsley, Keegan… Attacking football and a 3rd place finish… Keegan left in a helicopter, Mcdermott went too and so did Arthur Cox….

Became a season ticket holder in the East Stand paddocks (the benches), went with my dad…

1984-1985 Season…84-85 season...

Jack Charlton arrived… We started well, top after 3 games but that was as good as it got… Charlton took the huff and left, as did Chris Waddle to Spurs… We finished 14th…

1985-1986 Season…1985-1986 season...

Willie Mcfaul took over…George Reilly wore a headband, then left… Mid-table obscurity, we finished 11th… Average attendance 23,434…

1986-1987 Season…1986-1987 season...

A great escape, orchestrated by Paul Goddard… Peter Beardsley cried off injured in the run in, then he left for Liverpool… We used the money to replace the old West Stand… 17th place finish…

1987-1988 Season…1987-1988 season...

The three sided ground season, whilst the Milburn Stand was being built… Anyway, Mirandinha arrived, as did Glyn Hodges… Gazza blossomed and got to know Vinnie Jones… We finished 8th… Gazza left for Spurs, Paul Goddard for Derby and Neil Mcdonald for Everton…

Vivid memories  of Glyn Hodges turning up at an awards night with Gazza, espadrilles and no socks… Very Miami Vice, just not very Felling…

1988-1989 Season…1988-1989 season...

John Robertson arrived and left, as did Dave Beasant… Willie Mcfaul sacked, replaced by Jim Smith…Three home wins all season, relegated 20th and rock bottom…

My first experience of relegation… Can’t say I enjoyed it, although it didn’t really have the same significance in the days before the Premier League…

1989-1990 Season…1989-1990 season...

Mick Quinn and Mark McGhee scored some goals, 80 points and third place… Lost in the play-off semi-finals to Sunderland…

Attended my first ever away game, a goalless draw at Sunderland in September… and  my first ‘proper’ away game a few weeks later, a 3-1 win at Hull City…
