England v India

Edgbaston… Day 4 – Saturday August 4th

England won by 31 runs (D4)

Ticket: £56 – Programme: £6

Day Four, and a memorable win for England…

Requiring 88 runs with 5 wickets in hand, India started the morning as favourites…

An early breakthrough though, James Anderson removing Dinesh Karthik in the first over of the morning. The momentum began to swing once again…

India rallied, creeping past 140. Then the pivotal moment, Ben Stokes trapping Virat Kohli lbw just past his 50. He reviewed but the decision stood. 141/7, Edgbaston in full voice, goosebumps…

Later in the same over Mohammed Shami followed Kohli back to the dressing room, caught behind. From that point on it all became a little bit of a formality, India bowled out for 162, England winning by 31 runs…

You really can’t beat test match cricket…

England v India

Edgbaston… Day 3 – Friday August 3rd…

England won by 31 runs (D4)

Ticket: £66 – Programme: £6

Day Two… and  India had made 274 all out in their reply. Not bad considering that they had recovered from 100/5, largely down to Virat Kohli’s innings of 149. Frustratingly from an England perspective, 92 runs were added for the final two wickets…

Alistair Cook fell to the final delivery of the day, leaving England to start Day Three on 8/1…

Day Three… And things then went fom bad to worse, a steady succession of wickets fell during the morning to leave England on 87/7. Enter Sam Curran, who with support from Adil Rashid and Stuart Broad made 63 runs in 102 minutes, pushing England to a slightly more respectable total of 180 all out. More importantly though, a defendable target of 194…

In pursuit of that target, India lost wickets as regularly as England. They finished the day on 110/5 but with Virat Kohli still at the crease, and only a further 84 runs required to win…
