Bears v Glamorgan

Edgbaston… Saturday September 2nd…

Bears won by 11 runs

Ticket: £71Programme: £6

The purists don’t really like T20, to be honest I was initially unsure. I’m most definitely a convert. I’m also a massive fan of Finals Day, in fact it’s quickly becoming my favourite sporting event of the year…

Due to the sensible zoning of Edgbaston, all btastes are catered for. Purists, families, stag-dos, they’re all covered; I may not want to sit in The Hollies, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t find it entertaining from a distance. What really made this year’s Finals Day so memorable (apart from the great weather) was the quality of the cricket on display and the closeness of the games…

Which brings me to the first Semi-Final, and a win for my adopted side, the Birmingham Bears. A win built largely on a quick fire fifty from Ed Pollock in the Power Play. A fifty that I missed the vast majority of as I was still queuing to get in. The Bears set Glamorgan a target of 176, and they were always in contention, if always just a little bit short…

Either result was still a possiblity going into the the final over, and there were a few squeaky moments for the Bears. Andrew Salter hit Chris Woakes for two fours and a six from the first three deliveries. A catch on the boundary by Adam Hose from the fourth finally finished things off, and a place in the final belonged to the Bears…
