About…

An exiled Newcastle United fan, living in the Midlands, with a recently reignited passion for football…

The Past….

Early Eighties…

When most of the kids I grew up with wanted to be Kenny Dalglish, I wanted to be Alan Shoulder (well for about a week, then I wanted to be Chris Waddle)… Started going with my dad in 1981 aged eight (Luton Town, FA Cup 4th Round, 2-1, Ray Clarke, Mick Martin). Season ticket holder from 1983-2000, attended most away games between 1989 and 1998…

Interesting times… Obscurity, Keegan, Promotion, a helicopter, Waddle / Beardsley / Gascoigne sold, relegation, defeat to the Mackems in the play-offs, near relegation to the Third Division. Keegan again, promotion, so close in 1996, The Halls and Shepherd got greedy, Keegan gone. Dalglish worked his ‘magic’, an FA Cup Final disaster, Gullit took the blame, another FA Cup Final disaster, SBR steadied the ship. 2000 ground expansion, the club wanted my seat for a Sports Bar, disillusioned, stopped going…

Anyway, some time passed, I moved away and got a bit older but then I began to miss it. Started going to a few games in 2009, the relegation / promotion fights rekindled my interest. Followed that up with a few visits to my new local team, Nuneaton Town, and gradually the interest started to come back…

The Present…

Early Forties…

Having a bit of a mid-life crisis I think, so I’m using the 2014/15 season as an opportunity to revisit some old haunts and to discover a few new ones…

Attempting to take in a game very weekend, writing a few words and taking a few pictures along the way…

The Future…

Who knows, the novelty of travelling will soon wear off, the dark nights and winters, and the cost…  they will all take take their toll,  so I don’t see this being a long-term thing…

For the time being though, this is just somewhere to capture my personal experiences of football, predominantly through the lens of Newcastle United…
