Australia v England

Edgbaston… Wednesday June 27th

England win by 28 runs

Attendance: 24,227

Ticket: £56 – Programme £6

A comfortable win for England, on a warm Wednesday evening at Edgbaston, in this solitary IT20 match against Australia. A win to add to a 5-0 ODI series victory…

Australia won the toss, and chose to bowl. England started quickly however, with Jason Roy and Jos Buttler putting on 95 for the first wicket. Buttler became the first wicket to fall (for 61), having taken the record for the fastest T20 50 by an English batsman (22 deliveries). England continued to score quickly, eventually setting the Australians a target of 222…

Australia’s poor recent form continued, and they soon found themselves chasing the game at 72 for 5. This was the cue for Aaron Finch to start hitting big, and he certainly put the pressure on the home side (Moeen Ali in particular) for a few overs. But with his dismissal for 84 (1 deliveries / 7 fours, 6 sixes), Australia’s chances of victory disappeared…

India next up, the first IT20 at Old Trafford on Tuesday…

Edgbaston… Day 1 – Thursday August 17th…

England 348 for 3 (90 overs)

Ticket: £41 – Programme: £6

Day One of the first ever Day/Night test match to be played in the UK…

After the loss of a couple of early wickets (39/2 after 7.3), England dominated, moving to 348/3 by the close. Alistair Cook batted through, finishing the day on 153 not out; Joe Root made 136, sharing a partnership of 248 with Cook…

The only disappointment being that the runs continue to come from the usual suspects…

Day 2: Alistair Cook was finally dismissed for 243 as England went on to make 514/8 before declaring. West Indies progressed to 44/1 from 16 overs before rain stopped play…

Day 3: West Indies were dismissed in their first innings for 168. They followed on, making an even smaller 137, and losing by an innings and 209 runs. 19 wickets fell on the day, among them being Stuart Broad’s 384th test wicket. A dismissal which took him past Ian Botham to become England’s second highest Test wicket taker of all time…

Australia v England

Edgbaston… Saturday June 10th

England win by 40 runs (D/L Method)

Attendance: 24,227

Ticket: £50 – Programme £5

In the end, a comfortable win for England…

Australia started well but four wickets each for Mark Wood and Adil Rashid restricted them to 277/9 from 50 overs…

England started their reply poorly, spluttering to 35/3. But following a rain delay, Eoin Morgan and Ben Stokes made a 159 partnership that took England almsot home, and culminated in a century for Stokes just before the rain descended…
