Liverpool 2 Newcastle United 2

Anfield… Saturday April 23rd… 3pm

Attendance: 43,837

Ticket: £47 – Programme: £3.50

An awful first half performance, followed by a fantastic second half comeback. My legs are currently covered in bruises following a bout of over-celebrating when the the equaliser went in…

Spent the last few minutes waiting for the late Liverpool winner to arrive, as it usually does. This time, it didn’t…

Newcastle United 3 Swansea City 0

St. James’ Park… Saturday April 16th… 3pm

Attendance: 48,949

Ticket: £33 – Programme: £3

Three goals, three points and a clean sheet. A pleasant change…

Not the greatest of games but then, who cares…? It may be a cliche, but this was definitely one of those days where the result was of far more importance than the performance…

Outside St. James’… 2.30pm…

First half, and the atmosphere was understandably muted, nerves coupled with an underwhelming game. Things took a turn for the better as half time approached, Jamelle Lascelles heading us into the lead from a corner. Yes, a corner…

The second half was suitably nervy, Swansea had a really strong twenty minute spell where they managed to waste a number of good chances, Gomis (on as a substitute) being the main culprit. Into the last ten minutes and the stress levels were reduced, Moussa Sissoko firing a second, again (really) from a corner. Into the last couple of minutes and Andros Townsend finished it off, finishing cooly following a lovely run and pass from Mitrovic… 3-0…

Mitro could have made it four late on but pulled his shot wide. It didn’t matter though, he was obviously keeping his powder dry for when it does…

First Half Action…

The result, coupled with Sunderland’s 3-0 win at Norwich meant that we were back in the hunt, albeit only just…

If we can only get something against Citeh on Tuesday night. Then maybe, just maybe, that dreaded ‘hope’ thing may start to return…

Given their current position and form , this could possibly be my last trip to Nuneaton this season. Unless they can make a last minute dash for that final play-off place…

Southampton 3 Newcastle United 1

St. Mary’s Stadium… Saturday April 9th… 3pm

Attendance: 31,542

Ticket: £39 – Programme: £4

Reading through some of my recent rambles gives the impression that I’m a bit of a moan. I don’t want to be, it would be really refreshing to be able to find some positives but at present, they’re just not there…

Anyway, we managed to surpass ourselves this afternoon, absolutely shambolic. The first half display was our worst of the season, that’s a pretty special level of inept when you consider some of the rubbish that it was up against. I would love to be proved wrong but I get the impression that far too many of our players quite clearly couldn’t care less…

It’s that absolute certainty, less than five minutes into a game, that you have absolutely no chance of getting anything…

southampton v newcastle...

First Half Action: 22m25s, 1-0 Down…

The match then, in as few words as possible…

The players had their customary huddle, the pretence of togetherness and fight. Five minutes later we were a goal down, by half time it was two; and it should have been a lot more.

Ten minutes into the second half and it was three, I then toyed with the idea of making an early exit to the station. Stuck with it to see Andros Townsend score a cracker, but it was never going to be anything more than a consolation. The final twenty five minutes drifted by, we lost…

Second Half Action: One of Two Newcastle Corners…

If relegation wasn’t a certainty last week then it has to be now. I just can’t see how this rabble can gather themselves for the run in. Please prove me wrong…

Highlight of the day? Made it across New Street Station in less than two minutes to make my final connection. In doing so I think I may have expended more effort than our entire squad (Jamelle Lascelles excepted) had across the entire afternoon…

Southampton; Forster, Bertrand, Martina, Fonte, Van Dijk, Clasie (Romeu 77), Wanyama, Tadic (Rodriguez 84), Long (Ward-Prowse 60), Mane, Pelle

Not Used; Stekelenburg, Cedric, Yoshida, Austin

Goals; Long (4), Pelle (38), Wanyama (55)

Newcastle United; Darlow, Anita, Mbemba, Taylor (Lascelles 46), Janmaat (De Jong 40), Townsend, Shelvey, Wijnaldum, Sissoko, Perez (Cisse 70), Mitrovic

Not Used; Woodman, Dummett, Tiote, Obertan

Goals; Townsend (65)

02.04.2016… Norwich (a)…

Norwich City 3 Newcastle United 2

Carrow Road… Saturday April 2nd… 3pm

Attendance: 27,137

Ticket: £30 (£10 Reduction from Away Fund) – Programme: £3.50

The first of two long Saturdays in succession…

An early(ish) start from the Midlands, changes at Leicester and Peterborough (Waitrose refuel), into Norwich for quarter past one. In hope rather than expectation…

norwich v newcastle...

Pre Match: Newcastle Warm Up…

Then it was the usual story. A reasonable first five minutes, followed by forty minutes of dross. Even so, it looked as if we were going to go in level, until some bright spark amongst our support decided to keep hold of the ball at a free kick. When the ball was finally returned, Norwich swung it in and scored. The marking was woeful but the delay didn’t really help…

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first until the introduction of Mitrovic, within ten minutes his looping header made it 1-1. Almost immediately we fell behind for a second time before Mitrovic levelled again from the penalty spot. Into the final five minutes and we pushed for a winner, Cisse forcing Ruddy into a cracking save…

Into added time and Norwich scored a third, 3-2, game (and possibly season) over…

norwich v newcastle...
