28.11.2015… Palace (a)…

Crystal Palace 5 Newcastle United 1

Selhurst Park… Saturday November 28th… 3pm

Attendance: 24,833

Ticket: £32 – Programme: £3.50

Seven days after the previous new low, another new low…

After last Saturday’s debacle, I genuinely didn’t believe that things could get any worse. This is Newcastle United though, so they did, and they got much worse…

A bitty trip, two trains to St. Pancras, then a tube to Victoria and a further train to Selhurst; no delays en route though so made it in plenty of time. It must be nearly twenty years since I’d been to Selhurst Park and nothing much appeared to have change in the interim. I like it though, not so much from the outside but definitely on the inside…

Before Kick Off: Let the Embarrassment Continue…

I suppose that I’d better at least mention the game in passing. We started badly but scored against the run of play through Cisse, could this be another lucky ‘Bournemouth’ day? Very quickly the answer to that question became apparent, a categorial ‘No’. Palace equalised almost immediately and, as per the recent script, we folded. Shot after shot rained in at Rob Elliot, goal after goal was conceded, we offered absolutely nothing in response. In summary,we were very lucky to get away with five…

All of the classic relegation related fun was on show too. Fans leaving at half-time, others arguing among themselves about the relative merits of Cabaye. ‘We’re Shit and We’re Sick Of It’ and ‘You’re Not Fit to Wear the Shirt‘ getting an airing, happy days…

Post-Match: Rob Elliott, Head in Hands…

So another waste of rather a lot of cash, including another £60 train ticket. Very few away trips these days can be made for under £100, why do we bother…?

Giving Spurs a miss, and If I ever hear ‘Glad All Over’ again it will be too soon…

Newcastle United 0 Leicester City 3

St. James’ Park… Saturday November 21st… 3pm

Attendance: 50,151

Ticket: £33 – Programme: £3

One of the most disgraceful performances I have ever witnessed by a Newcastle United side…

It’s not really worth singling out any individuals for their input (or lack of) as the team were collectively inept. Cliched I know, but an absolute disgrace to the shirts they were wearing, even with the loan shark logos attached…

Pre Match…

This is worse than the early nineties, as at least in the dark days before the arrival of Keegan we had some hope that things may eventually get better. We knew that McKeag could only hang on in there for so long, whereas Ashley’s wealth makes him untouchable…

Next stop, Selhurst Park next Saturday, three trains and a tube with the result pretty much a foregone conclusion. In fact, there was a point on the walk back to the Central Station where I seriously considered not bothering, ticket already bought but throwing good money after bad…

First Half…

On a happier note, I watched ‘I Believe In Miracles’ on Monday night. A fantastic story with a cracking soundtrack, and great to see the story of that great Forest team being told as much from the perspective of the players as Clough and Taylor…

Scraping promotion, Champions of England, European Champions, all in the space of two years. If only football still had the capacity to be a little bit more like that…

Another good performance, another three points and top of the league, for the time being…

nuneaton v alfreton...

First Half Action…

Nuneaton dominated the first half but without scoring, always a worry…

Within two minutes of the restart, however, they were ahead through a Shane Byrne goal. Alfreton never really exerted any pressure and when the second goal came in the 78th minute the game was all but over, Aaron Williams slotting past the keeper in a on on one…

Next up, a trip to AFC Telford United on Saturday…
