18.10.2015… Norwich (h)…

Newcastle United 6 Norwich City 2

St. James’ Park… Sunday October 18th… 4pm

Attendance: 47,006

Ticket: £29 – Programme: £3

One of the strangest games I’ve ever seen, 6-2 did seem rather flattering…

Norwich came for the three points, no question, and early in the second half at 3-2 and pushing it felt as if that may be the eventual outcome. Even at 5-2 they pushed, two efforts of the woodwork, still thinking that they may be in with a chance if they could get one back…

Pre-Match Warm Up…

Having been to Manchester City earlier in the month, the comparisons with our setup  made for a sobering trip. We may have a large ground and massive support but we’re small fry compared to the money on display in M11. The Etihad Campus is huge and the facilities are light years ahead of ours…

St. James’ is starting to look a little unloved, signage nailed on outside with the fixtures exposed, ditto the newish lights on the front of the Gallowgate and Leazes and the cheap TV screen. Our only possible avenue for expansion to be developed into something, anything, as long as there’s a cheque in it for the owner…

Sums up Ashley’s attitude to the club I guess, everything achieved for minimum expense and maximum profit…

Newcastle Take a 4-2 Lead..

I’m not going to complain about the three points though, very much needed. Typical Newcastle too, concede six one week, score six the next. Four goals for the very impressive Wijnaldum too, I wonder where he’ll be plying his trade in eighteen months time…?

Anyway, next is the small matter of a trip to the dark place, rights to be wronged; I’m not expecting much other than apologies and excuses…

Unrealistic expectations? No expectations at all…

Newcastle United; Elliot, Janmaat, Mbemba, Coloccini, Dummett (Haidara 65), Sissoko, Tioté (YC) (Anita 45 ), Colback, Wijnaldum, Pérez, Mitrovic (Cissé 88)

Not Used; de Jong, Lascelles, Thauvin, Woodman

Goals; Wijnaldum (14, 26, 66, 85), Pérez (33), Mitrovic (64)

Norwich City; Ruddy, Whittaker, Martin, Bassong, Olsson (Jerome 84), Dorrans (YC) (O’Neil 84), Tettey (Hoolahan 62), Redmond, Howson, Brady, Mbokani Bezua

Not Used; Wisdom, Rudd, Jarvis, Bennett

Goals; Mbokani Bezua (20), Redmond (34)

Forthcoming Attractions…

Although Hednesford took an early lead, the game was over as a contest by half time. Three quick fire goals by Alfreton, the last of which (from the penalty spot) resulting in a straight red card for Hednesford goalkeeper Dave Parton…

Just when you think that things can’t get any worse…

I struggle to write anything about our situation at the moment, always end up repeating myself. We all know what the problem is, everything else is only a symptom…

There’s absolutely no point in discussing the finer points of the performance, the players, the manager, the chief executive, the ‘board’; nothing changes until Ashley goes…

Having said that…

20 Minutes In… Winning 1-0…

I’m slightly puzzled by the suggestion that we had an outstanding first-half, we played well but that was it. A great goal by Mitrovic and a perfectly good goal disallowed but Manchester City had chances. There was always a feeling that they were misfiring and couldn’t play as badly after the break, they didn’t…

The first twenty minutes of the second half were shambolic, it wouldn’t be so bad if we’d conceded good goals; but at 1-2 our heads dropped and we gave up…

It would be unfair not to mention Agüero and Silva though, absolutely world class. I’m sure at some point in the future I’ll be able to say ‘I was there’, not for a very long time though…

man city v newcastle...

Second Half… 6-1 Down…

Anyway… I stayed until the bitter end, not out of any great wish to applaud the team, more out of sheer bloody mindedness toward the Citeh supporters parked to our right.

But at least it didn’t rain…

Manchester City; Hart, Zabaleta (YC), Otamendi, Mangala (YC), Kolarov, Fernando, Fernandinho (YC),  Silva (Iheanacho 75), De BruyneSterling (Jesús Navas 45), Agüero (Bony 66)

Not Used; Sagna, Caballero, Demichelis, Garcia Alons
