03.06.2015… 14/15 Summary…

So, 2014-15, it’s all over…

The plan was to take in a game each weekend, takes some pictures, write some words; all just about achieved with the odd exception here and there. 48 games in total, 6000 miles covered; games watched in the Premier League, Championship, League One, League Two and the Conference…

Far too much money spent in the process to admit to but mission pretty much accomplished…

Newcastle United…   nufc

19 Games (6 Home, 13 Away)…

Won – 8, Drawn – 2, Lost – 9 / For – 20,  Against – 31

Final Position: 15th (20)

Miles Travelled – 4469

With the exception of the five weeks between the middle of October and late November, it was pretty awful throughout. The second half of the season deserves a special mention for serving up possibly of the most wretched set of performances I’ve ever witnessed as a supporter. Relegation was avoided on the final day of the season, we should be thankful for small mercies I suppose, and I did see most of our wins…

Highlights: Spurs (A), Chelsea (H)

Lowlights: Southampton (A), Manchester City (A), Leicester City (A)

Nuneaton Town…

17 Games (16 Home (1 Abandoned), 1 Away)

Won – 6,  Drawn – 4,  Lost – 6 / For – 19, Against – 21

Final Position: 24th (24)

Miles Travelled – 334

Not great. It was fairly apparent following the first few games what the eventual outcome would be. A late rally brought some hope but a points deduction and a further loss of form meant relegation in last place at the end of April…

Highlights: Forest Green Rovers (H), Macclesfield Town (A)

Lowlights: Eastleigh (H), Grimsby Town (H)

Gateshead…

5 Games (2 Home, 3 Away)…

Won – 2,  Drawn – 1, Lost – 2 / For – 8, Against – 6

Final Position: 10th (24)

Miles Travelled – 393

A season of underachievement. Following last season’s Wembley Play Off final, expectations were high. Early season form was promising but fixture backlogs as a result of cup commitments and a mid-season loss of form lead to a tenth place finish. Didn’t get to as many games as I would have liked either, hope to get to a few more next season…

Highlights: Nuneaton Town (A)

Lowlights: FC Halifax Town (H)

Others…

8 Games / 6 Grounds

Miles Travelled – 1007

Early season trips to a few Championship grounds, Derby County, Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town. Later in the season, a League One trip, Walsall was added to the list of grounds visited…

Meanwhile in League Two, a first ever trip to Carlisle United, followed by a further two later in the season. They won’t be an ‘other’ next season, they’re being added to the fold…

And North Shields at Wembley, need I say more…

Highlights: Portman Road, Carlisle United, North Shields at Wembley

The Remainder…

I’ve ended up spending rather too much money on programmes, the whole season can be found here, laid out in chronological order…

I bought a few magazines and fanzines along the way too; When Saturday Comes, World Soccer, Football Weekends, The Blizzard, True Faith. It’s always good to have something to read on those long train journeys…

Worst habit of the lot though, I’ve ended up back on the football stickers. What started out with a Brazil 2014 album has spiralled a little out of control. I’ll put a few pictures up on flickr, I’m not proud…

Going Forward…

And next season…? Who knows…?

Old Trafford, Anfield, Selhurst Park, Vicarage Road, Carrow Road, Broadhurst Park, Kingsmeadow, The Lamb Ground…

One thing is certain, it all starts on again on July 4th, Nuneaton Town v Derby County… But maybe a little bit of cricket in the interim to take the taste away…
